![]() Just be warned, you'll soon be going back and buying the rest of their albums. If you are an existing fan you won't be disappointing and if you a new to the band this is as good a place as any to start. WASTING LIGHT 33 RPM VERSION HOW TOThe Foo Fighters always knew how to write songs with infectious hooks, ripping riffs and scream along lyrics and this album is no exception. This album was well worth the wait and whilst it may be classed as a lo-fi production, it in no way sounds it and the harder direction the band went in suit's them to a tee. WASTING LIGHT 33 RPM VERSION FULL`Walk' is also a song that builds and by the time you get to the end where Grohl screams `I never wanna die' you are singing along with full gusto and feeling every emotion conveyed. The last two tracks `I Should've Known' and `Walk' ease us out in style and `I Should've Known' has a great intro which then builds throughout the song until it finishes with typical Foo Fighter grit and flair. `Arlandria' is slightly gentler and reminds me of Them Crooked Vultures, but this still manages to chuck a chorus at you to get you bouncing along with pure joy. I especially love the ferocity of Grohl's vocals. I adore `White Limo' (which has an awesome video with Lemmy, check it out on YouTube) and this gets me tapping my feet and bobbing my head within seconds of it starting. Grohl's vocals are raw and this song is infectious. This doesn't disappoint in the slightest and from the opening riff of `Bridge is Burning' and those thumping drums, you know you are in for a treat. I was eagerly awaiting the new release from the Foo Fighters and when I heard it was recorded in Grohl's garage and it would have a rawer sound than we are used to, I was even more excited. I have no hesitation in recommending this. It sounds excellent, the packaging is gorgeous and you get the feeling the band really cared about the presentation of this album. I don't know how much of this is down to the specific equipment I own (the speakers for my record player are at least twice as large as the speakers on my CD player), but regardless I am extremely pleased with my purchase. I am not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination and do not own any 'high end' audio equipment, but to my untrained ears the vinyl version sounds at least as good as, if not better than, the CD version. The technical reasons for this escape me, and there is no 33rpm version of this album to compare it to, however I can confirm that it sounds absolutely fantastic. This initially puzzled me as the whole album could have fitted onto one record if played at 33rpm, however having googled it the reason for this is that the sound quality is apparently better at 45rpm. This album is split across 2 12" records played at 45rpm, with 2-3 songs per side. Wasting Light is a simply fantastic album, in my opinion the best the Foos have done and easily one of my all-time favourites. Having recently acquired a record player, I have been enjoying buying and re-listening to some of my favourite albums on vinyl. This review is for the vinyl version of the album. ![]()
